South Node in the 9th House

Being born with the South Node in the 9th house indicates that the native should give less importance towards abstract truths, religion and foreign traditions, and instead concentrate on developing skills that need detail. In addition, a vital karmic request of his path is to communicate more with people of his immediate surroundings and dedicate his time towards his siblings, cousins and generally people of his everyday reality.

As the Lunar Nodes are always opposing each other, a 9th house South Node gives a 3rd house North node. That placement has been excessively analyzed in the respective article.

A 9th house South Node person feels quite comfortable blending with foreign cultures or religions, while also any type of higher and abstract meanings. During previous lives, he may have experienced the roles of a priest, an academic, a judge or a publisher. In any case, he had definitely traveled a lot to distant places while also broadened his mind through blending with foreign cultures. This can be particularly noticed in people whose 9th house also contains vital planets, powerful by sign or strongly aspected by other planets and points.

Such aspects will create a strong ease towards expanding in the same direction, and these patterns can easily reappear. The individual may have a tendency to seek comfort in them during his young years and can have extravagant abilities of learning foreign languages or dreams to travel abroad. In some cases, even memories of previous lives in different countries can appear; those will be observed mostly as random flashbacks or even a special preference towards a country or a culture.

Of course, re-living the same patterns does not really help the native progress, as his soul path is now showing a need to move towards the opposite direction and pay attention to things that are right near him and do not need time or effort to reach. The 3rd/9th axis of the Lunar Nodes is probably the easiest dilemma that life can impose to someone. They both contain intellectual growth and travelling, and changing the focus from one to the other takes lot less effort than other placements of the Nodes. Nevertheless, a transit usually awakens his consciousness and the native will choose consciously to abandon old habits and strive towards new ones.

Curiously enough, benefic planets such as Venus or Jupiter conjuncting the South Node in the 9th can manifest in such a great way that the native really will not want to change his views concerning communication and learning. These two planets, especially if well-aspected, will give great ease with studying and will awaken in the native the greed and zeal to once again become a transmitter of knowledge. Therefore, such a native will have to fight harder within his own mind, as someone does not easily relinquish the pride of being a human who produces and transmits information to the masses, in order to do the exact opposite and dedicate himself to the details. It takes strength and courage to choose walking the difficult road.

The South Node in the 9th house requires abandoning any great plans of expanding the native’s life towards distant countries, and pushes him to find the beauty of life in small things that are already present around him. He should discover the places that are near his residence through short trips, dedicate time to siblings and neighbors while also find a hobby or a craft that will become his personal dedication. Yes, he can still continue writing and expressing himself, but in a 3rd house way. His written works should be mostly created for himself and not to become famous or influence other people. Indeed, this could happen some day; yet it is wise that he firstly fully activates his North Node in order to be able to use the South one with harmony.

Another vital thing that a 9th house South Node person should abolish, is his tendency to believe he is right. People with such a placement are usually arrogant about their beliefs, and not flexible towards change. Indeed, their wisdom may be unquestionable; nevertheless this does not mean by any means that they are always correct. A life lesson that the South Node in the ninth house teaches is to become more open towards changing your mind. It requires from the native to dive into researching the details, which is a third house activity. Then, and only then, may he again indulge in creating 9th house beliefs. Of course, having passed through such a transformation the native will understand that even new models of beliefs that he builds should be open for change or even demolition.

If you have this placement, reconsider your quest of diplomas. They might look beautiful on your wall, but what your soul really needs is to learn a real craft. Learn a real craft, something that you can do with your hands.  Get closer to people, understand that you can learn something even from individuals that are of a lower intelligence than you. Sometimes, abstract knowledge and higher meanings are less important than knowing to do or create something with your bare hands.

We should hereby note that the South Node is debilitating the power of any planet that it conjuncts, and this can even be quite helpful. Malefic planets are still remaining tough to bear, yet they are losing quite a lot of their potency. Of course, benefic planets are also operating less powerfully. Imagine the South Node as a gravitational hole, sucking energy from the nearby planets- no matter what type. The South Node is the entropy, leading the system of your own self towards stability and eventually decay. On the other hand, pursuing the path that your North Node dictates is literally allowing fresh energy flow to your system, negative entropy that protects your soul from getting stuck in stability (even if it’s of the type that you enjoy).

Learn to leave back your South Node and embrace the lessons that the opposite house has to offer. Yes, you will leave quite a lot of things behind. But it is the only way to make yourself rise as a conscious human being, a person who holds his fate in his own hands.
